About PhRMA Foundation
The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America Foundation is a non-profit, 501(c)(3), organization established in 1965 to promote public health through scientific and medical research. It provides funding for research and for the education and training of scientists and physicians who have selected pharmacology, pharmaceutics, toxicology, informatics or health outcomes as a career choice.

The primary objective of the Foundation is to expedite the careers of young scientists in training, and support the research or salaries of young faculty members. The nucleus of an application for any of the pre-doc awards offered by the Foundation is a formal proposal to undertake research leading to a Ph.D. dissertation or to conduct a research project in a laboratory or clinic.

Although studies with proprietary drugs are permissible when the purpose is to test a hypothesis, research projects designed solely to extend or develop the value of a proprietary drug are not supported by the PhRMA Foundation. An exception to this rule may be made when a project involves drugs for the treatment of a rare disease.

The PhRMA Foundation will accept applications for research on drugs for rare diseases that meet the requirements under uniform standards of quality and content of the Foundation's twelve programs.
